John 5 closed out his 36 show "Season of the Witch” tour on Easter Sunday at Reggie's Rock Club. This would be the 2nd time I’ve seen him and it sure seemed like there were more fans at this show.
I was actually surprised at the turnout considering it was a holiday but I should have known better. The venue was packed with hardcore fans who would not be denied. John wastes no time when he takes the stage. One face blistering solo after another. He must be considered one of the best metal guitar players around today. But John can play any genre and really cannot be labeled. A country, Jazz, Metal you name it he can play it. One of my favorites of the night was Behind the Nut Love which is just a smooth mellow country tune. I really wish he would play more of his acoustic songs since he is such an accomplished player.
The stage set up was basically with backdrops on the sides and the drummer in the middle. They set up box type smoke machine in the front of the stage for John stand on and shred. The stage at Reggie’s is small so not too much you can do. John always comes out with his classic make-up, costumes, and really awesome guitars. He pulled out a guitar at the end of the show with red lasers that beamed across the venue which was super cool. This stuff just adds to the whole John 5 Live Experience. John always works for the crowd after every song to get a response. I think he really wants to feel like he is giving the crowd a great show. Watching him play you can see how hard he concentrates on every note he plays. Closing the show with crowd favorite Beat It and then a medley of cover songs you realize that this guy can play anything and play it to perfection. If you are a fan of the guitar and the people who play them John 5 is a must see. As said before I’m my opinion he is one the most talented musicians I have seen a play he guitar. Take the time to listen to his solo albums and you will hear the diverse songs from metal to bluegrass.
THEN GO SEE HIM LIVE.
